CONCORD, N.C. – The 2013 WKA RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series season closer has been moved from Rockingham Speedway to Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. The event will still take place on October 4-6.
WKA and Rockingham Speedway officials met late last week to discuss issues that had arisen regarding bringing the Gold Cup back to Rockingham. Meetings ensued this week and a mutual agreement was reached to move the event from Rockingham to another venue.
WKA felt it was important to keep the race in the Southeast and on the originally scheduled Oct. 4-6 weekend. When contacted, Carolina Motorsports Park officials eagerly welcomed the Gold Cup Series back to the Kershaw, S.C., venue, prompting officials to move the race to the CMP Sprint Track.
The Carolina Clash presented by Jammer Clutches & Performance North will now close the 2013 Gold Cup at the 0.7-mile CMP Sprint Track Oct. 4-6. The normal Gold Cup weekend schedule will be followed, as always, with gates opening for parking, pre-tech and registration Thursday, Oct. 3, practice and the pro races Friday, Oct. 4, and national racing Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5-6.
While the nostalgia of bringing the Gold Cup back to Rockingham was an attraction for many, if you’ve never been to Carolina Motorsports Park, you’re in for a treat.
CMP has hosted the WKA National Road Racing Series on its 2.3-mile road course for nearly 15 years. About five years ago CMP built a terrific 0.7-mile Sprint Track near the main gate of the facility. Since then, the CMP kart track has hosted a WKA national for four years running.
The Gold Cup joined the Road Racing Series in March 2010 for the first-ever national on the then-new CMP Sprint Track. Since then, the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series has run in conjunction with the Road Race in 2011, 2012 and this past April.
Man Cup turnouts at Kershaw have been strong each year and the Gold Cup show in 2010 was a big hit with over 230 entrants.

Another benefit to CMP is the track has plenty of opportunities to test. The CMP Sprint Track will be open the weekend prior to the Gold Cup national, Sept. 28-29, for testing. Cost is just $45 for the day. The track also is available for testing/practice throughout most of September. Visit CarolinaMotorsportsPark.com for more information or call the track office at 803-475-5010.
Camping is also available at CMP. Cost is $15 per vehicle per day, and $25 per day for 30amp power. Call the track office at 803-475-5010 to reserve camping.
For those who have already pre-entered for Rockingham, your entry will be moved to Kershaw unless you contact the WKA office to say otherwise.
More news is forthcoming, including another exciting payout for the Senior Pro Gas Animal classes at the season closer.
