July 12, 2012 - Traveling east to the Jet Karting Facility at Michiana Raceway Bark near South Bend, Indiana for the fourth round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup program, P1 Engines pilots had another successful weekend. With drivers in all disciplines of classes, Scott Ferris would bring home a pair of victories for the California-based engine builder while Chris Wehrheim, Mason Chelootz and Jonathon Kotyk would add more podium finishes.
Leading the way with victories was TaG Masters driver Scott Ferris. After grabbing the pole position during both Saturday and Sunday's qualifying efforts, Ferris went on to make the clean sweep of Sunday's festivities taking the heat race win and main event victory after Saturday's sixth place result from deep in the field. Untouchable on Sunday, Ferris looks to be the driver to beat as the series enters the penultimate round.
Utilizing a P1 prepared X30 for the first time, Chris Wehrheim came home with an impressive third place result in Sunday's TaG 2 final. With the result, the Georgia based driver has closed the gap in the points championship and will make a bid for the title lead as they travel to the next round. Competing in the TaG 1 category on Saturday, Wehrheim scored another top five result crossing the stripe in the fourth position and regained control of the overall points lead.
P1 Engines powered Mason Chelootz, would see action in the Parilla Leopard Only class scoring a fifth place result in qualifying. Battling hard to move forward in the heat, Chelootz fell back one position in the main event to cross the stripe in third. Maintaining the overall points lead, Chelootz will head to round five and look for the race win in his quest for the title.
Floridian Jonathon Kotyk would see action in the Komet Lite and Heavy divisions for P1 Engines. After struggling slightly on Saturday, Kotyk was back at the front of the field Sunday after qualifying second and coming from the tail of the field to finish third in the heat race. In it to win, Kotyk would lead the main event in an all out battle but contact forced him to retire two laps from the end.
"It feels good to keep the winning streak alive," expressed P1 Engines Owner Jesus Vasquez. "The majority of my customers are on the West Coast so to come East and compete with the best out here shows something about our equipment and preparation."
Next up for P1 Engines is the Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour event at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah July 20-22. Heading into the event, P1 Engines powered drivers lead all four TaG championships with Phil De La O on top in TaG Senior, Luke Selliken in Junior, Paul Bonilla in Masters and Hunter Corbitt in TaG Cadet.
