05.31.2012 - Razor in command of Gold Cup Manufacturer Championship points

gc logo.2012CONCORD, N.C. – With two of five national events in the books for the WKA RLV Tuned Exhaust Products Gold Cup Series, the Atlanta, Georgia-based Razor Chassis is in position to successfully defend its 2011 Gold Cup Manufacturers Championship title.

Razor, owned and operated by Steve and Stacy Roberts of Roberts Kart Shop, left the 2012 Gold Cup Series opener in early March at Jacksonville with some work to do.

The Harrisburg, N.C.-based Mind Game Motorsports, better known as MGM, scored eight feature wins at Jacksonville to Razor’s five, giving the Paul Rice-led bunch the hole shot on the new season.

After two races Razor is ahead with 17 wins. MGM and Bandit, a Winchester, Va., outfit that hasn’t built chassis for a few years, are tied for second with nine triumphs apiece.

Riding the addition of 2-cycle divisions to the Gold Cup in 2012, the new DR Kart sits fourth with seven wins in the 2-cycle Gold Cup classes. Arrow has six wins, Coyote five, Margay two and Merlin, CKI and JMK have one win each.

With two Gold Cup national events down and three remaining, there is still time for MGM and others to catch Razor, but the charge will need to start at round three, the Baker Racing Engines Nationals July 13-15 at South Bend, Indiana’s Michiana Raceway Park.

Although stranger things have happened, an eight-win advantage after two races makes it hard to justify a bet against Razor for its second consecutive Manufacturers championship in the WKA Gold Cup Series.
