Daytona Sprint Track Receives
Major Facelift For KartWeek
11.28.2007 - As karters converge on the beginning of a new season on the George Kugler/Bridgestone Manufacturer’s Cup Series driven by Mazda, they will be greeted by an old friend with a fresh smile on her face. With Daytona KartWeek just a scant few weeks away, Speedway officials, along with WKA, have made modifications to the sprint track, which will surely enhance the status of the facility.

On the advice of many competitors, additional curbing and gator bumps have been added in key areas of the 10 turn road course. However, the most welcomed change will undoubtedly be the elimination of the extremely tight “S” turn. In the past, this turn has come at the end of the fastest part of the course, forcing drivers to get up on the wheel for a series of extremely tight right and left hand turns, the end result leaving many running off course as they made their way back to the front stretch.

The new configuration will have the backstretch extended, running behind the former operations building, making a gradual right hand turn back onto the front straightaway. Work began on the new configuration before the Thanksgiving Holiday, giving the newest piece of asphalt plenty of time to cure in the hot Florida sun.
