Congratulations Danica!
04.22.2008 - The World Karting Association would like to congratulate former WKA champion Danica Patrick on her first IRL win and history making finish. Danica made history this past weekend by being the first woman to win an IRL event. Sunday, she drove to her first place finish in Japan. She is now third place in points for the season just two points behind IRL driver Scott Dixon. WKA would like to wish you the best of luck for the remainder of the 2008 racing season.

Paulie Harraka Wins NASCAR Late Model
Season Opener For Toyota TRD

04.17.2008 - In what was to be a day of many firsts for Paulie Harraka, the teenage driver opened the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model season with a hard fought and well deserved Victory at All American Speedway in Roseville, Ca.. The 18 year old Harraka, who is originally from New Jersey but is now residing in North Carolina, commutes cross-country to Sacramento, Ca. from North Carolina to drive for premier NASCAR team owner Bill McAnally.

Phil Reuter To Take Lead On NJMP
04.17.2008 - The Woodbridge Kart (WKC) is pleased to announce that Phil Reuter has stepped up to take the lead in our inaugural event at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) September 5-7, 2008 to ensure its success. Phil's home location in New Jersey makes him a perfect candidate for this endeavor. Karen McCollum is stepping in as Vice President for the remainder of the 2008 race season. Karen has been instrumental in organizing our events for the last few years and is extremely familiar with the role of Vice President.

Chris Keller Doubles in Season Opener
04.17.2008 - Green Brook, New Jersey (March 13, 2008) – 19 year-old, Chris Keller, a former National Karting Champion just begun his 2008 National Formula Ford campaign at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, CA. The Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle development driver is in his second year with the program. Last season, Chris competed in a limited schedule with two third place finishes; one being in a Formula Ford and the other in a Formula Renault 1600.

UMW Motorwerks Finalizes 2008 Race Schedule
04.17.2008 - UMW Motorwerks has finalized its 2008 race schedule for the team’s newly-acquired Mazda MX-5 Cup car. Highlighting the 2008 schedule will be two trips to Road America, first for the June Sprints, and second for round four of the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. The four-mile course serves as the home track for UMW and driver Steve Welk.

04.14.2008 - It is with heavy hearts that we write this. We are all struggling to make sense out of the tragedy we experienced with Shane's passing. He will never be forgotten and will always live in all our hearts - he touched many of our lives.

Speedway Pavement Divisional Racers
04.04.2008 - Within the last few days, WKA released a statement indicating a change in the national schedule for the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series by virtue of a loss of a venue in Indiana for 2008. Those changes have affected the schedules for two divisional programs, the Northeast Speedway Pavement Series and the Maryland Speedway Pavement Series.

New Castle Pavement Event Cancelled, 5 Race Schedule Revised
04.02.2008 - Due to unforeseen circumstances, the scheduled July debut of the New Castle Motorsports Park event for the Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series has unfortunately been cancelled for 2008. However the 5 race schedule for speedway pavement series competitors will remain intact with some revisions.

National Road Racing Series Committee
Revises Rear Bumper Proposals

04.01.2008 - In December 2007, The NRRS Committee announced that it planned to propose “full width” rear bumpers in its Laydown and Sit-up Sprint classes. The new bumpers would be required by mid-2008 and would have been similar to the bumpers already required in karts running CIK style bodywork.

NHKA April Event At NHIS Cancelled
03.20.2008 - Due to uncontrollable track conditions, the New Hampshire Karting Association and track officials have cancelled the April 4 - 6 WKA Road Race Regional event. The speedway's infield is currently covered with over 30 inches of snow and received more snow as a result of yesterday's storm. It is the opinion of track management that even as the snow melts, the draining water will be uncontrollable. Visit the NHKA website for updated information regarding the next event.

WKA Announces Its Position on ROK TT Specifications and Clarifies TAG and Spec 125 Sprint Air Box Rules
03.10.08 – On October 25, 2007 WKA published the list of the engines approved for the Manufacturer’s Cup TAG class and the kart/driver weights at which they would compete. That announcement included the statement that, “The weights and engine specifications will be reviewed after the second Manufacturer’s Cup event of the 2008 season. WKA will make every effort to level the playing field among engine manufacturers. Performance differences among the various manufacturers will be adjusted by kart weight or restrictions to the engine or exhaust system.”

The partnership will mainly focus on a scholarship to be provided to a driver for the 2008 series for one of the The Academy’s students. However, in addition, Stars and The Academy will also work to educate other drivers in the series of the opportunity to join The Academy of Motorsports as a student.

02.26.2008 - Due to a misunderstanding, Vickery’s Speed Shop merchandise certificates that were awarded at the Dirt Series banquet in Hickory, NC will not be valid or redeemable through Vickery’s Speed Shop. Anyone that received a Vickery’s merchandise certificate at the year-end awards banquet should return the certificate to the WKA office. You will be sent a replacement certificate redeemable at a participating race shop. We apologize for the misunderstanding and any inconvenience this has created.

02.19.2008 - The WKA Heartland year-end awards banquet will be held February 23, 2008 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa. This banquet will encompass both the Bully Clutches Heartland Speedway Dirt Series as well as the Heartland Speedway Pavement Series.

WKA On Display At The ‘08 Kart Expo International
02.19.2008 - WKA will once again participate in the KMI hosted Kart Expo International trade show, February 23 and 24th at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois. Representing WKA will be Van Gilder, Marie Borsuk, Buddy Long, Michael Davis, Jerry Cole, and Josh Schiffler. Stop by booths 210-212 to say hello. In addition to being on hand for the trade show, WKA will also be hosting an SFI 2-cycle Tech Certification seminar, which will take place from 12:00 to 5:00 PM. WKA Moving Forward
01.08.2008 - Effective Jan. 1, 2008 some significant changes took place in the leadership roles of the WKA. Both President Randy Kugler and Vice-President Kenny Venberg retired from their officer’s position. Filling the roles in those two areas will be former Chairman of the Board Rick Dresang as the new WKA President and District 10 Trustee Kevin Williams as the Vice-President of Sprint and Road Racing. Van Gilder will continue in his role as Executive Director.

01.05.2008 - The pre entries were flowing into the North Pole this year as abundantly as the cold Artic air, as the top racing request for the holiday season was a return to Daytona International Speedway for the rebirth of Daytona KartWeek. And with the Christmas time of year affectionately known as a time of birth, how fitting it was for a grand old tradition to re-emerge. 2008 WKA/SFI Certified Technical Inspector Program
01.04.2008 - WKA and the SFI Foundation, Inc. (SFI) are working together again to develop and administer WKA’s technical inspector training and certification program. This year, the training will be expanded to include more information on the role of the tech inspector, tech room procedures and the protest and appeal process. WKA will also offer a reduced seminar price for those members who want to learn more about technical inspection but are not applying for certification.

Paulie Harraka Wins Rookie Of The Year And Finishes Second In NASCAR Track Championship Points
12.19.2007 - Multi-time WKA National Champion and Stars of Karting winner Paulie Harraka has just completed his first full season of Late Model racing for Bill McAnally Racing through Richard Childress Racing. Harraka, who raced in the premier Western Late Model Division at the NASCAR sanctioned All American Speedway finished up the season with 2 wins, 7 second place finishes, 11 top 5's and 14 top 10's during the 17 race season. He capped off his incredible season by capturing the Rookie of the Year award by 72 points over his nearest competitor, and by finishing in second place in the season long NASCAR points battle. Harraka was in contention for the NASCAR Track Championship right up until the last 2 races of the season.

WKA Reserved Number Application
12.11.2007 - WKA is now accepting requests for reserved numbers in the Sprint and Speedway Divisions for the 2008 racing season. Unlike previous seasons, this year there is one form for both for renewals and new number requests. Renewal applications are currently being received until January 23rd, 2008. Beginning January 24th, 2008, any numbers not taken will become available numbers for anyone to reserve on a first come, first serve basis. 11.20.2007 – The 2008 Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series is just around the corner. Before the season can be labeled complete, the champions and their fellow competitors must be honored at the Annual Awards Banquet to be held in Hickory, NC January 26, 2008 at the Hickory Metro Convention Center in conjunction with KartFest 2008. Driver Loses Life At Road Atlanta Road Race
11.07.2007 - Connecticut native Keith Lorentzen, 26, of Nashville, TN was fatally injured in a karting accident at Road Atlanta Sunday afternoon. Keith was competing in the Piston Port Can Sprint 380 class at the time of the incident.

10.31.2007 - The WKA / Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda wraps up the 2007 season this weekend at Road Atlanta. Robby Harper and the Big South Gang will be the host as once again, drivers will vie for many points’ championships at this historic road circuit in Braselton, GA. This year’s event will mark the 5th consecutive year for the finale to be held at Road Atlanta.

10.25.2007 - WKA announces a new format and new engines for the Bridgestone/George Kugler Manufacturer’s Cup Series driven by Mazda TAG class – TAG is one of the most popular and fastest growing classes in the Manufacturer’s Cup series. In recognition of this growth, WKA announces that the class will now be called TAG 1 and TAG 2. TAG 1 will run the first day of each Manufacturer's Cup event, and TAG 2 will run the second day. Update On Jr Sportsman Classes In Manufacturer's Cup
UPDATED - 10.17.2007 - WKA has received calls and e-mails regarding the transition from MG Tire to Bridgestone YHC in the Jr. Sportsman classes (Cadet, HPV, and Yamaha) for the '08 season. Two of the major concerns are time to allow any existing MG Tires to be used up and what to do with the MG rain tires that have not yet been used.

James Whittemore 1989 – 2007
17 year old James (aka Jimmy-Jimbo) Whittemore, WKA and NHKA member, passed away last week as a result of an accident on a construction job site in Massachusetts. 07.23.07 - On Wednesday July 18 the WKA Board of Trustees appointed Mr. Jimmy Rivers to fill the position of District 4 Trustee. He replaces Mr. Dan Hardy who is no longer able to serve the District 4 membership. Mr. Rivers has accepted the position and will be announcing his choice for 4-cycle Representative in the near future. Mr. Bobby Moore will continue as District 4 2-cycle Representative. Chuck Moats: 1953 - 2007
06.27.07- Chuck Moats passed away on May 26, 2007 at Ralph H. Johnson VA hospital in Charleston, SC @ 1245am from liver disease. He raced with WKA in the Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series from 1991-2004. He loved karting and it brought his family closer together. There was no other place he would want to be other than racing against his friends. His son Rodney Moats is putting together a memorial at home for his father. NHIS Regional Cancelled Due To Weather
04.04.07 - The WKA Road Race Regional event scheduled for April 6-7 at New Hampshire International Speedway has been cancelled due to weather related issues. NHIS currently has 3-4 inches of snow and is expected to get 4-12 more inches in the next 2 days. The temperatures in the next few days are expected to stay below freezing so even if the snow was to be at a minimum, the chances of it melting away are still slim. And as with any snowfall, it must melt which results in a flow of water across the track. With this in mind, NHIS & NHKA officials have decided to cancel this weekend’s activities in the best interest of safety.

Time Change Reminder
03.07.07 - WKA would like to remind everyone of the change in daylight saving time. This year, it is to begin on Sunday, March 11th rather than the first Sunday in April as before. This new change is part of the United States Energy Policy Act of 2005. This means that you will turn your clocks ahead one hour. Then, on November 4th, you will set your clocks back one hour. Residents of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Arizona are not affected by the time change.

WKA Opens TaG Class to New Engines
03.01.07 - In 2005, WKA added the TAG (Touch and Go) class to the Manufacturer's Cup Series and approved ten engines for competition in the 2005 through 2007 seasons. Now WKA is inviting manufacturers, distributors, and importers of TaG engines to submit new TaG engines or new parts for existing engines for the 2008 through 2010 competition years.
