1. Competitors will bring 4 (New or Used) mounted spec tires to the grid as they arrive for qualifying. Tires need to be on kart for presentation.
2. Competitors may not present more than one set of tires per class entry Tires that are presented by competitor can NOT be used by any other entry.
3. Tires must be clean and dry when they come to the grid. Tires will be visually, as well as physically inspected with a paper towel. The presence of a wet or tacky substance will result in an immediate disqualification (non protestable).
4. Competitors may practice on any set of legal spec tires. This includes Friday practice, as well as practice on race day mornings.
5. Spec tires will be branded as competitors complete qualifying each race day.
6. Tires will be re-branded on the second day of the race event.
7. Branded tires must be visible at all times.
8. Competitors must qualify and race on the same set of spec branded tires.
9. Competitors may run the same set of branded spec tires on both days.
10. WKA reserves the right to randomly impound tires at any time.
11. Competitors must present their tires for inspection immediately upon request. Failure to do so may subject the competitor to disqualification.
12. All decisions by the officials on tires will be final. Disqualification of a tire offense is a non protestable item.
13. Open Flames are absolutely prohibited. Anyone caught using an open flame will be automatically disqualified from ALL remaining activities for the race weekend, and escorted off of track property. Violators will be subject to suspension/probation.
14. Anyone under the age of 16 caught administering prep will be automatically disqualified from ALL remaining activities for the race weekend, and escorted off of track property. Violators will be subject to suspension/probation.
Competitors may practice on any set of legal spec tires.
Competitors may practice on any set of legal spec tires.
Karters will bring their mounted tires to the grid as their class is called up for qualifying for inspection.
NOTE: Inspection refers to any and/ or all of the following methods: physical comparison to a legal tire. ie Brand and type of tire, tire must be a slick tire, tire must have proper brand, tire must be dry. If a tire, or tires fail inspection, the driver will be disqualified from that class, and be subject to probation/suspension for one year ( non droppable DQ). The failed tire (s) will be returned to the competitor at the end of the event. NOTE: Drivers who present one set of tires to be used in two classes on the same day will be penalized for both classes if any tire fails inspection. Tires will be branded upon completion of competitors qualifying laps, at exit of scales.
Competitors will bring their karts to the grid. Before removing the kart from the buggy, a randomly selected tire will be inspected. If the tire passes all inspections, the competitor will proceed to the grid for the race. If the tire fails any inspection, the competitor will be denied access to the track for the race and will be disqualified from that class, and be subject to probation/suspension for one year. (non droppable DQ).
The top five in each class will bring their karts to the designated impound area. The first place karts tires will be inspected. Any or all tires on each kart (positions 2-5) will be inspected. If any tire fails post race inspection as listed above, the driver will be DQed and it as a non droppable DQ.The durometer and JTR Eagle as well as other inspection methods will be used to gather information throughout the events. These procedures may be performed throughout the weekend BUT WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON THE LEGALITY OF THE TIRE BEING INSPECTED. These procedures are being implemented to be able to better control tire related issues in the future through actual information gathered at the events.
1. With regards to new or used tires, the correct compound and brand need to be used. With the availability of thick and thin tires in both spec brands, coupled with the inability to 100% detect whether a tire has been cut, Cutting, Sanding, or Grinding are permissible.
2. On the subject of prepping, WKA does not condone prepping at the track. However, WKA does not have an accurate means of prep detection at this time. If there is any wet or tacky substance on a tire as it comes up for qualifying and main events, or if the brand on the tire is altered in any way, the competitor will be disqualified from the event. Competitors who choose to prep do so at their own risk, and must be at least 16 years of age.
3. WKA will actively seek methods of completely eliminating prep and will test new procedures and ideas through the coming events. The JTR Eagle, durometer, physical inspection to a known stock tire may be used for research purposes ONLY, and will not render a disqualification.
4. One set of tires per entry per class. Tires will be branded at the discretion of the race officials, and cannot be used in another class by another competitor on the same day. Tires may be used on another day as each day will have a unique brand specific to that day.
These revisions to the Dirt Series tire rules in no way constitute a change in WKAs long term commitment to eliminate chemical tire prep in all of its racing series. This commitment is based on the health and safety issues and increased cost associated with tire prep. The Association will continue to work on a final solution to the problem. WKA has asked 4 Cycle Tech Committee Chairman Steve Vermeer to chair a committee to continue to identify and test additional methods to enforce the no prep policy. Vermeer will report his progress and recommendations to the WKA Trustees at their April 12, 2008 meeting.
