Competitors will bring their karts, with tires mounted, to the grid as their class is called up for qualifying for inspection.
Inspection refers to any and/or all of the following methods: physical comparison to a legal tire (i.e. brand and type of tire), tire must be a slick tire, tire must have proper brand, tire must be dry. If a tire, or tires, fail inspection, the driver will be disqualified from that class (droppable DQ).
Competitors will bring their karts to the grid. Before removing the kart from the kart stand, tire brand will be verified. Tire will also be checked for any physical discrepancies. (Wet or Tacky substance). If the tire passes all inspections, the competitor will proceed to the grid for the race. If the tire fails any inspection, the competitor will be denied access to the track for the race and will be disqualified from that class (droppable DQ).
The top five in each class will bring their karts to the designated impound area. Any or all tires on each kart (positions 2-5) will be inspected. If any tire fails post race inspection as listed above, the driver will be DQd (non droppable DQ).
The durometer and JTR Eagle as well as other inspection methods will be used to gather information throughout the events. These procedures may be performed throughout the weekend BUT WILL HAVE NO EFFECT ON THE LEGALITY OF THE TIRE BEING INSPECTED. These procedures are being implemented to be able to better control tire related issues in the future through actual information gathered at the events.
1. With regards to new or used tires, the correct compound and brand need to be used. With the inability to 100% detect whether a tire has been cut, Cutting, Sanding, or Grinding are permissible.
2. On the subject of prepping, WKA does not condone prepping at the track. However, WKA does not have an accurate means of prep detection at this time. If there is any wet substance on a tire as it comes up for qualifying and main events, or if the brand on the tire is altered in any way, the competitor will be disqualified from the event. Competitors who choose to prep do so at their own risk, and must be at least 16 years of age.
3. WKA will continue its efforts to work towards the elimination of tire prepping, and will test new procedures and ideas through the coming events. The JTR Eagle, durometer, physical inspection to a known stock tire may be used for research purposes ONLY, and will not be the determining factor in a disqualification.
